Throughline Featured in The Sensible Homeschool

The Sensible Homeschool published a mini-review of Throughline — not a feature dump, just what stood out after using it, plus a few tips she wished she’d followed sooner.

What she noticed

A few lines that stuck with us (because they’re what we were aiming for):

• The app can do a lot without feeling crowded.
• You can track each student differently — Simple, Balanced, or Detailed — so a younger child and a high schooler don’t share the same admin load.
• Older students can update their own progress when you give them access.
• Reports help with the paperwork side of homeschooling, and they look like something you’d actually turn in.
• Quick Log, templates, defaults, and a timer help on days that don’t go according to plan.
• You can change plans mid-year. Homeschool life usually requires that.

She also mentioned that we’ve been quick to reply when she had questions. We use Throughline with our own kids, so that part matters to us.

The setup tip (worth repeating)

Don’t start by adding activities.

Get students and the school year in place, then subjects (and curricula if you use them), then plan and log. If dropdowns look empty, you’re usually missing that foundation — not hitting a bug.

The welcome email walks through the same order. It’s short on purpose.

If you use an umbrella school

Her note on this is practical: if your covering school already makes you enter curriculum somewhere else, use Throughline to complement that — not to double every field. Some families keep Simple or Balanced tracking for attendance and subjects and leave curriculum light so they’re not updating two systems.
